I absolutely loved this book! Reasons I loved this book:

1. I thought Joclyn's relationship with Ryland was adorable.

2. Even though Joclyn was a loaner (which I normally don't like) I found her to be extremely likable. She didn't push people away, she was just afraid of getting hurt.

3. The plot was entertaining and unpredictable!

My onlyyyyyy issue with the book was that I spent half of it falling in love with Ryland and Joclyn's relationship, only to have it taken away :(. Needless to say, I will be reading the next one!

I really liked this book but I feel like something was missing and I can't put my finger on it... The characters were great, the love story was hot, the villain was villainy, but something just felt missing. I think, maybe, my biggest issue with this book was that it was slightly unbelievable (well, as unbelievable as a vampire book can be lol). I guess I did not really understand why these books and poems were SO important to Gio. I also never figured out why Gio was copying a manuscript from B's library either. Maybe these questions will be explained in the next book? Also I feel like this book ended in such a way that I don't really feel a need to go buy the second book. If someone gave me the second book for free I would read it, but I'm not dying to find out what happens. All in all, this book was beautifully written but just seemed to be lacking somewhere. Check it out and tell me what you think! After all, it is free ;)

Honestly, I am so glad I didn't spend any money on this book. Buttttt, with saying that, I HAVE TO BUY THE SECOND BOOK... Let me explain. I could have done without the first 3/4th's of this book. In the first 3/4th's of the book, the ONLY vital information you need to know is that Ember is not normal, she can make things blow up when she gets mad. She does this to her school so they send her away to juvie. She meets a hottie in juvie and they have the "typical" relationship of 

1. They hate each other but are drawn to one another.

2. He shows her a teensy bit of kindness then shuts her down.

3. She's mad at him.

4. He shows her a teensy bit of kindness then shuts her down.

5. She's mad at him.

6.He shows her a teensy bit of kindness then shuts her down.

7. She's mad at him.

That was honestly the first 3/4th's of the book. It was just unnecessary. I wished the author would have made the first quarter of the book that and thennnnn get to the part where she gets attacked by Eli's brother. THAT is where it started getting good. After Ember was attacked and taken away was when it reallllly started getting good... good enough for me to want to check out the second book. I don't think I'll read the next book (Fire in the Darkness) right away, but I will definitely check it out. It has great reviews on goodreads. I just hope that it doesn't take most of the book to actually get into the story like this book did.

I loved this book. Before I downloaded this book I checked it out on Goodreads. It had an average rating of 4.33 stars, which is a lot for a book you can get for free on amazon! So I "bought" it (it was free for digital download) on amazon yesterday and could not put it down. I truly loved this book. What did I like about the book without giving it all away?

1. The main character, Sara, was an extremely likable heroine. She was fearless, kind, loving, and such a bad ass. She seemed to be looking for trouble for all the right reasons! Every bad situation she found herself in was because she was trying to help someone else.

2. They did not beat us over the head with a love story. I LOVE love stories, but if the girl gets the guy in the first book, I am much less likely to read the second book in the series. 

3. SHE HAD FRIENDS! I hate books that portray the character as the lone wolf. I loved that she had a rag tag group of friends that would do anything and everything for her. They loved her just as much as she loved them and they stood by her until the end.

4. She loves and helps animals. A regular fauna of the forest! Animals were drawn to her, she would befriend anything and everything :). She regularly found wounded animals and healed them with her healing powers (no matter how scary they were). In the end, her selfless acts came back to help her out!

I can't wait to read the next book in this series, Refuge. Karen, you did a fabulous job with this book and I can't wait to see what else you write! Please don't stop!
